“Utopia Pictures” is the trailblazer of the short films distribution successfully in Russia and CIS countries, and one of the key Russian distributors working with the art-mainstream pictures.
The history of the company dates from 2006 and starts with distributing the International Film and Animation Festival “Future Shorts”. By present Utopia Pictures has already displayed more than 40 Future Shorts programs as well as programmes of «Kurzfilm Festival» and «Klik! Amsterdam Animation Festival».
Beginning with 2011 Utopia has started to work with iconic full-length feature films such as “Chapiteau Show” by Sergey Loban, “Living” by Vassily Sigarev, «Iron Sky» by director Timo Vuorensola, “Until the night takes apart” by Boris Khlebnikov, “Sightseers” by Ben Wheatley, “The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology” by Slavoj Žižek, “Hard to Be a God” by Aleksei German, “The Tribe” by Myroslav Slaboshpytskyi, etc.
In 2013 Utopia entered into exclusive partnership with the global franchise Oscar Shorts – programs comprising short films and animations nominated for Oscar.
Since the end of 2014 Utopia Pictures also started to release its own thematic curated short films programs, such as Fantastic Shorts, Black Comedy Shorts, Short Love Stories, Sexy Shorts, Crazy Family Shorts, and Horror Shorts, it also released two Russian short films almanacs “New Russians” and “New Russians-2”.
In the summer of 2015 the Utopia Pictures content became available for legal on-line viewing. So far it concerns only the New Russians program, but soon other programs will also be available for downloading. The company is also developing non-theatrical screenings market, Free TV and Pay TV market, DVD.
Each project of the Utopia Pictures team is something outstanding in its segment or genre. The company shows preference for singular, unique, and exceptional content that might be interesting for advanced audiences and bold venues, over the mass product.
